Known worldwide for personal and enterprise computing solutions, Hewlett-Packard, or HP, also caters to government, education and the health care industries. Incorporated in 1939, HP became a publicly traded company in 1957 starting at $16 per share. HP entered the medical equipment industry in 1961 with the purchase of Sanborn Company of Waltham, Massachusetts. A significant portion of HP's revenue, their medical equipment production contributes to the company's $87.9 million revenue in 1961 and the division will eventually be part of Agilent Technologies, a company formed by HP in 2000. HP's dedication to rugged design and user-friendly interfaces lead to the HP Codemaster XL defibrillator and the HP Sonos 1000 ultrasound system. The Sonos 1000 ultrasound system began HP's venture into the cardiology market and is a key piece of ultrasound machinery. HP is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.
